About The Author

I’m Jonathan Mason. One day I’ll be a real technologist and visionary (maybe). I’m a lifelong learner who believes the future of technology should be written with people at the center, not by the boys who cried wolf. This blog is about me trying to live that.

I’ve always been the person asking, “How does this fit into the grand scheme of things?” Not just how technology works, but what something this powerful changes about how we work, live, and see ourselves. And now, in the age of artificial intelligence, that story is growing in real time. Technology is changing at a rate that, 10 years ago, a lot of people would have called science fiction. That curiosity about big themes and big impact is what drew me to technology, and it’s why the future of work and AI fascinates me more than almost anything else.

My path has given me a view of technology from several angles. I earned my B.A. in Computing and Information Technology from DePaul University after dropping out of school four times and taking 10 years to finish. I learned that people can overcome adversity and persist, for no better reason than to prove it to themselves. I even managed to land a Project Management Apprenticeship at Google, which kind of rewarded my persistence.

I’m a big believer in human potential. Too much of today’s conversation about AI is driven by fear, hype, or both, and like any powerful thing in society, its consequences can be either trivialized or made to seem magical. I started this blog to reclaim a different narrative, one where technology can be a net positive for humanity. Not predicting our demise, but finding a future where we aren’t replaced by machines and learning how to ride the wave of their advent. That doesn’t mean ignoring the real problems. Job disruption, misinformation, privacy, and inequality are serious, and I’ll write about them honestly. But I believe that understanding these shifts is the first step toward shaping them, and that ordinary people deserve more than doomscrolling the apocalypse: they deserve something that can help their lives.

That’s what this blog is for: clear, honest, practical writing about where technology is taking us, for people who don’t work in tech now but want to learn more, and for those in tech-adjacent roles. I can’t promise no jargon, but I will do my best to add value in a way that’s accessible to anyone who knows what a blog is.
